Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 November 2026. This policy explains what BeginnerCoder (beginnercoder.net) collects, why, and who processes it. Contact: support@beginnercoder.net.

What we collect. (1) Account data if you register: name, email, a hashed password, and the lessons you complete. (2) Progress, XP, streak and notes stored in your own browser (localStorage) — they never leave your device unless you are signed in, in which case completed lessons are saved to your account. (3) Messages you send through the contact or advertise forms, and your email if you join the update list. (4) Text you send to the AI tutor, hints, explanations and quizzes — sent to Google's Gemini API to generate an answer; Google may retain prompts briefly for abuse monitoring under its own terms. Do not paste personal data into the tutor. (5) Analytics and advertising identifiers, only if you accept cookies (see the Cookie Policy).

Who processes it. Vercel (hosting and privacy-friendly page analytics), our Postgres database host (accounts and progress), Google Analytics 4 and Google AdSense (only after consent), Google Gemini API (AI features), Resend (email delivery), Lemon Squeezy (donations — we never see your card details), Amazon Associates and Udemy (only if you click an affiliate link).

Where. Our providers (Vercel, Google, Resend, Lemon Squeezy, our database host) process data in the United States and other countries outside the EU. Transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or EU Standard Contractual Clauses. When you click an affiliate link, Amazon or Udemy may set cookies and collect information about your visit under their own privacy policies.

Why. To provide lessons and accounts (contract), to answer your messages (legitimate interest), to measure and fund the free site (consent for analytics and ads).

How long. Account data until you delete the account or ask us to. Form messages up to 12 months. Update-list emails until you unsubscribe (email us or reply "unsubscribe"). Server and audit logs up to 90 days, including the daily counters for the AI tutor and free-request limits, which store a salted one-way hash of your IP address (never the address itself). Analytics data per Google's retention settings (14 months).

Your rights. You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or port your data and to object to processing, and you can withdraw consent at any time, by emailing support@beginnercoder.net. You can change cookie choices via “Cookie settings” in the footer. If you are in the EU/UK you may also complain to your data-protection authority.

Children. The site is meant for learners aged 13 and over. If you are under 16 in the EU (or the lower age your country sets), a parent or guardian must consent before you create an account.
